Trails at Governor Dodge State ParkWhether it's hiking, biking, horse-riding or cross-country skiing, Governor Dodge has a trail for you to explore. About 40 miles of trails interlace the park. Btween this site and the DNR site, we can give you some idea as to what you'll experience. But really, you just need to get out there and see for yourself. This is a new section for us. With the help of the Dodgeville Kiwanis, we are starting to make "Trail Videos". The concession stand at Cox Hollow Lake is operated by the Dodgeville Kiwanis and they were nice enough to hike some trails and take pictures along the way. The Friends in-turn make video slideshows that are posted on YouTube and then embedded on this site. Feel free to visit our YouTube Channel to view all our videos. Trail VideosTrail DescriptionsLost Canyon TrailThis is an 8.1-mile loop trail that starts at the Cox Hollow beach picnic area. The trail is open to hiking and cross-country skiing. The trail is rated "advanced" due to several steep grades and trail length. It is mostly wooded and passes through the scenic Lost Canyon, Stephens' Falls, and Twin Valley Lake areas. (Ski time: 3 hours) In this video, we take you from the Concession Stand, past the amphitheater and on to Stephens' Falls. You will see scenes of lush forests, open prairies and views of both caves. This trail varies from long gently sloped grades to very rocky and steep terrain. White Oak TrailThis is a 4.5-mile wooded trail that begins at the Cox Hollow Lake beach picnic area. At the south end of Cox Hollow Lake, the White Oak Trails joins the Pine Cliff Nature Trail. The nature trail leads hikers to the Enee Point picnic area. At Enee Point, hikers will have to walk one more mile along Cox Hollow Road to return to the starting point at Cox Hollow beach. The trail meanders around the lake and provides scenic overlooks of the lake and valleys below. While hiking this trail, you will encounter steps, several steep rocky grades, and rocky surfaces. (Hiking time: 2-2.5 hours) more videos to come... |
